England may take revenge, Roberto Ayala thinks

December 1, 2001

BUENOS AIRES, December 1 (DS) - Argentinean national team captain Roberto Ayala shared his opinion about the results of the draw of the 2002 World Cup group stage with mass media representatives.

"We are one of the favourites of the 2002 World Cup, that's why we must not reckon on the goodwill of fate. We must take part in the World Cup in a 100 per cent shape to be capable of fighting against each and every rival. It is not easy to reach the World Cup, and all national teams, which will travel to Japan and South Korea next year, are strong enough," Ayala declared.

The Valencia defender stated that their match with England can become a "clasico" of particular type. In the last World Cup Argentina beat England who would like to take revenge now.

As for the Nigerian national team, Ayala stated that its players are experienced and play at a high level. He thinks that Nigeria is a tough cookie.

Another Argentinean national team player Nelson Vivas declared: "To achieve a necessary result we have to beat strong teams."

He also pointed out that they would like Brazil to become their rivals.
