Crespo: Batistuta is symbol of Argentinean football
May 12, 2002
BUENOS AIRES, May 11 (DS) - Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa is yet to announce his 2002 World Cup squad, having a wide choice of good players.
Argentinean international striker Hernan Crespo, who competes for the World Cup ticket with Gabriel Batitstuta, said he wants to be picked by Bielsa, DyN reported.
"I want Bielsa to prefer me. But even if it doesn't happen, it's ok. It is up to the coach to decide but we must all think for the good of the team. If I have a chance to play for 10 even 5 minutes, I'll do my best for the team. As for Bati, he is the symbol of Argentinean soccer and it's a nonsense to discuss his chances to travel to Japan and South Korea."
Asked if it is possible that both players will get call-ups, Lazio striker added: "It depends on the situation. But if we look at today's tactics of the team, it is impossible.
"I believe in my strength. Every player feels well when he plays and plays on his position. I am not saying I am the best, but I feel myself being the best. These are two different things," said Crespo.
