Veron scarred for life by Argentina disaster

Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron fears that Argentina's first-round elimination in the World Cup will haunt him forever.

"I always criticise myself when things go badly and our failure in Japan will hang over me for the rest of my life," Veron admitted as he arrived in Buenos Aires on an earlier flight to coach Marcelo Bielsa and seven of his team-mates.

"We must now try and put the tournament behind us, although the deep sadness we feel will never be forgotten.

"We didn't have any luck at crucial moments and that was the main reason we crashed out. If things had gone our way a little more, we would have been able to go further.

"Now I am going to have some rest with my family before going back to England to start the pre-season with United."

Argentina finished third in the so-called Group of Death, despite beating Nigeria 1-0 in their opening match. They came unstuck with a 1-0 loss to England and 1-1 draw with Sweden.
