Bati wants everything

Gabriel Batistuta has all his "lights on". Since he arrived in Argentina last Wednesday we've seen him
relax and happy. Reminding us of the Batistuta of 91, when he was called to be part of the National Team for the first time. This come-back has a special ingredient for Bati, this match will be played in
Argentina. This means a closer contact with his people. He wants this encounter to be full of goals.
We already know he'll be the one kicking the penalties. But maybe this is not the only thing he'll
do if we think of what took place in today's training session.
When the training was over he and Veron started practicing some free-kicks. It was mid-day in Ezeiza,
we saw them talking, then they started gathering balls.
A duel will take place, a "mano a mano", Veron vs Batistuta. The goalkeeper, Agustin Orion, an under 20 from San Lorenzo. The goalkeeper stands in front of goal, he looks as if he was facing a firing squad.
Who will win? Ha!!..Veron will eat Bati alive, his touch is better, said a fan near us. At the end the
both of them kick 13 free-kicks. The Fiorentina striker first shot went high. The fan near us winked
to his friend. Veron Scored. We could see the fan smiling. Bati scored with a right unstoppable shot.
So the shots came one after the other, some got in, some went high, others were stopped by the goalkeeper.
At the end the fan shrugged while kicking a stone walking toward the parking lot. The great Batistuta
has won, he scored five goals, one more than Veron. But Veron was close, two of his shots hit the post.
Revenge? The two players look at each other. The goalkeeper seems lost. Bati took a ball and set it in
the penalty area. Does he want to send Veron a message of whom will be kicking the penalty shots?
Who knows. Veron is not intimidated. He took another ball. Bati slammed the ball in the back of the net. Veron hit it very hard but the goalkeeper was able to stop it. The fan was no where to be seen.
As we can see Bati is with all his "lights on". He not only want to kick the free-kicks but the penalty
kicks as well. With one more goal Bati will reach his 50th goal with the National Team. He doesn't want to let this occasion passes by. That's the way Bati is....
Al delantero le falta un gol para llegar a los 50 en la Selección. Ya había adelantado que va a patear los penales. Ayer, probó tiros libres con Verón. Y ganó Gabriel.
Gabriel Batistuta está a full con esta nueva convocatoria. Apenas pisó suelo argentino, el miércoles, se lo veía feliz, como la primera vez que fue citado, allá por el 91. Además, jugará en el país luego de casi siete
meses. Se nota que quiere que este reencuentro con la gente sea especial, a puro gol: ya había adelantado que si había un penal él sería el encargado de patearlo. Pero parece que su multifunción no termina ahí. Cuando finalizó el entrenamiento de ayer por la mañana se puso a probar con los tiros libres junto a Verón.
Mano a mano. Mediodía en Ezeiza. El plantel elonga. Bati charla con Verón y juntan un par de pelotas. El arquerito Agustín Orión, un juvenil Sub 20 de San Lorenzo, se frota los ojos, escupe los guantes y espera agazapado como si estuviera en un pelotón de fusilamiento. No hay barrera. ¿Quién ganará el duelo? "Verón se lo come, le pega mucho mejor", dice uno de los hinchas que mira desde el alambrado al costado de la Richieri. En total, cada uno
pateó 13 tiros libres.
El goleador de la Fiorentina tira el primero por arriba del travesaño. El
hincha guiña un ojo: está agrandado. Verón la mete. El tipo sonríe con
el pecho inflado. Expectativa. Batistuta sale de las cenizas: clava un
derechazo terrible que sacude la red. Las pelotas vuelan afuera, salen
despedidas por el arquerito o terminan adentro.
Al final, el hombre mueve los hombros y patea una piedrita. El gran
Batistuta había ganado: metió cinco goles, uno más que Verón. Igual,
la Brujita estuvo cerca, ya que estrelló dos pelotazos en el travesaño.
Revancha. Los dos jugadores se miran otra vez. Orión no entiende
nada. Bati agarra la pelota y la pone en el punto del penal. ¿Quería
demostrarle a Verón quién va a patearlos si hay alguno el miércoles?
Tal vez. La Brujita no se achica y toma otra pelota. Batigol le da duro
y la manda adentro. Verón le da fuerte, también, pero el arquerito se la tapa. El hincha ya había puesto en marcha el auto.
Como se ve, Batistuta está con todas las pilas. No sólo quiere patear
los penales, sino que tiene en mente hacerse cargo de los tiros libres.
Con un gol más, llega a los 50 en la Selección. Y no quiere dejar pasar
el tren. Así es el Bati...
