Argentina will meet England in a friendly match on February 23rd at Wembley. This time only foreign based players will make up the Argentinian Selection. Will there be surprises?

The contact will be in London, but today is the day of the list. England will be the first rival of the year 2000 for the Argentina National team (clearly the biggest), and the question is who will be the main characters? Today it will be known. Players that could be summoned are goalkeepers German Burgos and Pablo Cavallero, the defenders: Zanetti, Ayala, Chamot (who was injured in Milan but will recover in time), Pochettino, Sensini and Vivas. In midfield: Almeyda, Redondo, Simeone, Gallardo, Veron, Christian Gonzalez and Gustovo Lopez. And the forwards: Ortega, Batistuta, Crespo and Claudio Lopez. Who will be called and who will be left out? only Bielsa knows.
Next Sunday Bielsa will be attending a seminar in Miami and then he will travel to Italy and Spain to speak with some players. From there he will go to Wembley to wait for the team and the rest of the technical staff. The Argentine Under-20 players directed by Hugo Tocalli will also travel to London to face the English Under-20 side on Tuesday, Feb 22 to be played in Fulham.
After the friendly match Argentina will meet Chile next month on the 29th for the qualifying round of the World Cup 2002.

Inglaterra, el 23 de febrero en Wembley, es el rival. Esta vez la Selección argentina llevará sólo jugadores que estén en el exterior. ¿Habrá sorpresas?
Bielsa se juntará con el plantel el lunes 21 en Londres. Antes irá a Italia y a España.
El contacto será en Londres, pero hoy es el día de la lista. Inglaterra será el primer rival del 2000 para la Selección Argentina (la mayor, claro), el 23 de febrero en Wembley, y la pregunta es: ¿quiénes serán los protagonistas? Hoy se sabrá, ya que se cumple el plazo (14 días antes) para pedir vía fax a los jugadores de afuera.
Marcelo Bielsa está de vacaciones en Miami y desde allí enviaría los nombres, todos del exterior. El tema es que los jugadores se juntarán el lunes 21 en el Spowell House hotel de Londres y dos días después enfrentarán al equipo que dirige Kevin Keegan. Muy poco tiempo de preparación y coincidencia con fechas de Copa Libertadores son las razones por las que no habrá ningún local en la lista. Repasemos: el martes 22 San Lorenzo recibe a Universitario y Rosario Central a Sporting Cristal, el miércoles 23 debutan Boca (en Bolivia, ante Blooming) y River (en México, contra Atlas). Conclusión: descartados. Además, ese miércoles es fecha FIFA para Europa, es decir, día de amistosos. Y Croacia, por ejemplo, recibe a España. Por lo tanto, no debería haber problemas con las convocatorias: viajes cortos, tres días... No problem.
Las fijas. No faltarán, seguramente, los incondicionales de Bielsa: Roberto Ayala y Javier Zanetti (los dos que más jugaron con el DT: 12 partidos cada uno), Diego Simeone, Germán Burgos y el Kily González (11). Tampoco Ariel Ortega, Gabriel Batistuta, Juan Verón, Mauricio Pochettino y Roberto Sensini. Y Nelson Vivas, otro preferido del Loco, que a pesar de no pasar un buen momento en el Celta sería de la partida y podría aportar su experiencia inglesa, tras su paso por el Arsenal.
Las chances. Para Bielsa, Redondo, Almeyda y Simeone juegan de lo mismo: de cinco. ¿Estarán los tres o se quedará con dos? Hernán Crespo y Claudio López también parecen tener el pasaje casi confirmado, pero... Con Bielsa nunca se sabe. El segundo arquero sería Pablo Cavallero, con la particularidad de que los dos (él y Burgos) son en este momento suplentes. Lejos de Europa pero cerca en las afectos futbolísticos del entrenador se encuentra Juan Pablo Sorin. Su equipo, el Cruzeiro, no juega la Copa Libertadores, y Bielsa lo llamó casi siempre (jugó 10 partidos). En su puesto, lateral volante por izquierda, es número puesto.
Las dudas. ¿Volverá Cagna, ahora que juega en el Villarreal de España? ¿Tendrá una nueva oportunidad Juan Esnaider? ¿Insistirá con Andrés Guglielminpietro y Gustavo López? Por ahora, sólo Bielsa lo sabe. Entre las dudas también se instala Marcelo Gallardo, por lesión .
Los pasos del Loco. El domingo próximo Bielsa dará una charla sobre fútbol en Miami, luego viajará a Italia y España para hablar con algunos jugadores. Desde allí irá a Wembley para esperar al plantel y al resto del cuerpo técnico. También viajará el Sub 20, dirigido por Hugo Tocalli, para enfrentar a su similar inglés el martes 22. El contacto en Londres se acerca.
Tras el amistoso con Inglaterra, la Argentina debutará en las eliminatorias el 29 del mes próximo, ante Chile, en el Monumental.
