Batistuta: "This type of play favours me"

This is Batistuta's last cycle with the National Team.

He arrives clam and relax, but as the questioning progresses
his answers become more critical. At the begining due to his
favoritism towards Bielsa, we thought he was veily criticising
Passarella, It was not so, some minutes later he has praising words for
the ex-coach of the National Team.
During his meeting with the press, Bati, who last Sunday scored a goal
after returning from an injury that had him sideline for a month and a
half, said the following:
"Bielsa's type of play favours me, because it's an offensive type of
play. This is the type of play that strickers relish, even though it
means running a lot. It is always best for a centreforward, to have
two players coming from either side
feading you with balls constantly."
"The thing I say, is that I beleive in Bielsa's way. It's a winning
type of futbol, one where you have more chances of
conquering a victory. You need to attack, because if you keep yourself
waiting, you loose. I like to take the iniciative always.
Attack!!! Those are the winning teams."
"Passarella always asked us to be protagonist. Remember what we did
at "Maracana". With Holland in the World Cup,
we wait at the back, they were playing a very good game."
"I'm 30 years old now, this will be my last cycle with the National
team. I've played with different players while playing with the
National Team, I won't tell you which team was the best."
"In Europe we have other coaches like Bielsa, so for me his ways are
not new. Bielsa adopted this kind of play because it gives you some
advantage. But this does not mean that it will be easy for us to put
to practice what he wants in a matter of two or three days."
"No, I don't consider myself the boss of this group, even though I'm one
of the oldest. Here in this group you find other players which are
important in Europe, players that
carries their own weight."

Reclining in his chair, wearing eye-glasses and with his long hair, he
told us he prefer not to talk about Edmundo, and says, he still has
hopes of winning the "scudetto" with Fiorentina, even though they are five
points down to Lazzio.
At the end we asked him if Bielsa favours the traditional
Argentine type of play. To what very firmly he answered:
"I don't believe Bielsa asked Ortega to change his way of
playing. We should all keep working and give the best of ourselves.
Bielsa will be there to put things in order and to bring the best out of
us all."
Batistuta se mostró a favor del estilo de Bielsa; es su último ciclo en la selección
HOENDERLOO, Holanda - Llegó distendido para conversar, pero a medida que fueron pasando los temas, las palabras de Gabriel Batistuta sonaron más críticas. En un principio, ante los elogios hacia Marcelo Bielsa, se pensó que el blanco encubierto era Daniel Passarella, pero después, el goleador de Fiorentina tuvo palabras de elogio hacia el ex entrenador del seleccionado.
En su encuentro con la prensa, en la concentración argentina en Holanda, Bati, que el domingo último se reencontró en Italia con el gol luego de la lesión que lo mantuvo un mes y medio inactivo, dejó las siguiente definiciones: "El juego de Bielsa me favorece, porque es de ataque, es un juego de pressing y para los atacantes, a pesar de que tenemos que correr más, nos favorece. Siempre se le hace más fácil a un centrodelantero si tiene a dos jugadores que desbordan y le tiran centros constantemente."
"Lo único que digo es que creo en lo que propone Bielsa. Es un fútbol ganador y protagonista. De esta manera tenés más posibilidades de ganar, porque si esperás, perdés. A mí me gusta ir al frente siempre. Los equipos
ganadores son los que van al frente."
"Passarella siempre nos pidió ser protagonistas; sólo basta ver lo que
hicimos en el Maracaná. Con Holanda, en el Mundial, nos pusimos atrás
porque ellos jugaban realmente bien."
"Tengo 30 años y esté será mi último ciclo en el seleccionado. Participé
en varios equipos, pero no quiero decir cuál fue para mí el mejor."
"En Europa hay técnicos como Bielsa, por eso no veo nada raro en él.
Bielsa adoptó un estilo de juego y, según él, este sitema te da ventaja.
Eso sí: no será sencillo entender lo que él nos pide en un par de días."
"No soy el jefe de este grupo, aunque reconozco que soy uno de los
jugadores más viejos, junto con Sensini. Acá hay varios futbolistas que
son importantes en Europa y tienen peso."
"Yo juego con cualquier sistema y con cualquier nombre."
Recostado sobre el respaldo de la silla, con lentes y pelo largo, prefirió no hablar de Edmundo y dijo que aún mantiene la esperanza de ganar el scudetto con Fiorentina, pese a que está a cinco puntos de un Lazio cada
vez más firme.
Sobre el final se le preguntó si Bielsa defendía el estilo del fútbol
argentino y Batistuta fue contundente: "No creo que Bielsa le haya pedido
a Ortega que no gambeteé. Todos tenemos que superarnos y Bielsa le
va a aportar orden. No hay que quedarse con la gambeta intrascendente
en la mitad de la cancha".
